I'm a small-time 3D animator, mostly using Garry's Mod but occasionally uses Blender. I mostly use Blender to edit models for animating in Gmod. I upload on YouTube but get "meh" attention there.

Rigged Medarot/Medabot Models For Anyone Interested

Posted by InfiniteFoes - July 6th, 2022

Any fans of the Medarot/Medabots series still around? I managed to port some Medabot models into the Source engine. If you wanted to do something with them, you can download the files here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1cm3iKjVYbzKuBT77Dn1DWg2PQd7e8GAd?usp=sharing

You can also get them as FBX models here:

(Reached the limit for preview images, I need to find an alternative)

The current game in the series is the mobile game Medarot S: Unlimited Nova. It's possible to retrieve assets from the game's files in the root folders, like models and textures. The meshes and armatures are separate and in .C3B format, which isn't a standard format for working with.

After failed attempts to find any assistance with this, I find out that someone designed a script for a program called Noesis that allowed it to convert the meshes into usable formats. However, they didn't appear to be aware of the bone separation, as it can't convert meshless armatures. I eventually thought "screw it, I'll do it myself". After converting some Medabot meshes and getting their textures, I proceeded to re-rig them myself. I then ported them for use in Garry's Mod.

The rigs are not perfect or accurate, since I had to guess where the bones should go. But they work pretty well, for the most part. I made some slight modifications to the meshes to accommodate for possible poses that they likely weren't designed to be in. Even though I uploaded them to the Steam Workshop, not many people there are using them. I mean, they're models from a Japan-exclusive game rigged for animating on a hub primarily used by non-Japanese players who want playermodels for active gaming and roleplay, what else can you expect?

I've downloaded the pack and i'm gonna test them out. you have no idea how long i've been trying to get these into SFM. thank you for porting them

Don't know if you're reading this but so far they all work pretty well. i can pretty much use them for my work. thank you very much.

Sorry for the late reply, but I should be thanking you for using these. Speaking of which, I recently added a few more bots to this. They're available now if you wanted to use them.

@InfiniteFoes I'll give them a test run

Would you happen to have these models as obj, fbx, or other generic file types instead of source files? I've been working on making my own models and having these for reference would be nice, but decompiling and converting the source file types such that I can load them up in blender is a pain- especially for such a quantity as this.

I'm more concerned with just having the meshes as reference, so if the rigging isn't perfect or even just isn't there I'm fine with that.

I do have the fbx meshes that I rig and port. Although, there is a Blender addon that allows you to import Source mdl models straight in. It's called "SourceIO" if you want to look for it.

Oh, that makes things infinitely easier than using crowbar and vtf editor, I never knew that existed.

Thank you very much for your hard work, I have been looking for something like this for a long time, and it is difficult since the Medabots community is very small and finding them on FBX is wonderful. Thank you very much for sharing your work.

neat

amazing work! May i ask is it possible to get the evangelion crossover model too? the code should be EVM00to EVM06,thx a lot

I have the meshes and textures for the EVM Medarots:

I don't remember their names, the site that I get that info from is down now. I couldn't re-rig them at the moment, but I did straighten up the parts that were out of position (some Medarot meshes are out of position by default, only placed properly when loaded in-game with their bones). I also separated the parts of one that would toggle in-game (these kinds of parts are usually combined in the same mesh in the files). There might be others that I didn't notice. They don't have the textures on them from the start, so you'll have to import and apply them yourself. Fortunately, these Medarots don't have too many.

I included a rigged Medarot hand model, in case you or someone else wanted rig them.

@InfiniteFoes Thx a lot!!!!

You have or can make the medabots (KMN00) Kimengar and (ADV00) Grain or Gryphon. Or he has created other models (I don't care if they are not assembled, I will put them together later).

Here are the meshes and textures for those:

Sorry it took a while to get around to it, I had a lot to get done at the time.

Very good Medabot Designs you have made

@InfiniteFoes Very good, Thanks for the models, I hope it's not a bother, can you make (GKD00) Gokudo, (KTN00) Foxuno and (COW00) Red Matador?

Hello InfiniteFoes, I'm a big fan of this series and video games, do you have the 3d models of (MTR00) Asterios, (GBK00) Gobenkei, (CLB00) Kuraba (the crab) and (CAR00) Landmotor?

Hi, I liked your 3d models, you have (TIR02) Buster-Tyranno,(SAT00) Antldier,(GKD00) Gokudo and (KTN00) Foxuno.

Hello mate, I am studying medabot designs for 2d drawing. When I looked at the IDL01 I noticed that it has 2 pairs of separate ears, but they look like they are swapped sides. For example, the left ear should be on the right. I'm new to 3D so I didn't know how to do it.

Many of the game's models used alternate meshes that would swap out when certain actions were performed. The two separate ear sets were one of those. For IDL01, it swapped to the forward-pointing ears when the head medapart was used. I rigged the backward-pointing ears since the microphones were in an easier to work with position. Those can be rotated to the desired direction.

Hi, I like 3d models and medabots, do you have the medabots (FMP01) Urzutein, (KLN01) Unitrix, (COW00) Red Matador and (FDR00) Greed?

@InfiniteFoes Hello Mate. I don't understand 3d so I don't know how to use these advanced things and I only use 3d programs for study. I talked to a colleague and he actually agreed that the left ear should be on the right as well as the other way around. It fixed it for me, despite it no longer being in the fbx format which is what I usually use to study and that's a little sad, as it's the only external format that Clip Studio Paint accepts.

Left ear on the right? The ears were only supposed to rotate vertically so the microphones connected to them would point upwards. If it's that complicated, you can use this version of the model with the ears already forward: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Cf8pRPisoz_y-TwSXUwCaPVRV_x5nj8r?usp=sharing

@InfiniteFoes thanks mate,But it doesn't seem to be right yet. Here is the link to her concept art coming directly from medapedia. Sorry for my incompetence, I haven't really learned much about blender yet. I need some time.

Do you have the 3d models of (COW00) Red Matador, (DVL00) Blackram and (WEA00) Robo Emperor?
