I'm a small-time Garry's Mod animator. I also work with Blender to edit models for animating in Gmod and submit some to the Steam Workshop. I upload on YouTube but get "meh" attention.

Rigged Medarot/Medabot Models For Anyone Interested

Posted by InfiniteFoes - July 6th, 2022

Any fans of the Medarot/Medabots series still around? I managed to port some Medabot models into the Source engine. If you wanted to do something with them, you can download the files here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1cm3iKjVYbzKuBT77Dn1DWg2PQd7e8GAd?usp=sharing

You can use the Blender addon "ScourceIO" to import these directly into Blender. You can also get them as FBX models now:

Last updated 2/14/24. I'd ask for bug reports, but that only works if people actively use these. If you want to see what models were currently included, here were the preview screenshots I had on Steam:

The current game in the series is the mobile game Medarot S: Unlimited Nova. It's possible to retrieve assets from the game's files in the root folders, like models and textures. The meshes and armatures are separate and in .C3B format, which isn't a standard format for working with.

After failed attempts to find any assistance with this, I find out that someone designed a script for a program called Noesis that allowed it to convert the meshes into usable formats. However, they didn't appear to be aware of the bone separation, as it can't convert meshless armatures. I eventually thought "screw it, I'll do it myself". After converting some Medabot meshes and getting their textures, I proceeded to re-rig them myself. I then ported them for use in Garry's Mod.

The rigs are not perfect or accurate, since I had to guess where the bones should go. But they work pretty well, for the most part. I made some slight modifications to the meshes to accommodate for possible poses that they likely weren't designed to be in. Even though I uploaded them to the Steam Workshop, not many people there are using them. I mean, they're models from a Japan-exclusive game rigged for animating on a hub primarily used by non-Japanese players who want playermodels for active gaming and roleplay, what else can you expect?

I've downloaded the pack and i'm gonna test them out. you have no idea how long i've been trying to get these into SFM. thank you for porting them

Don't know if you're reading this but so far they all work pretty well. i can pretty much use them for my work. thank you very much.

Sorry for the late reply, but I should be thanking you for using these. Speaking of which, I recently added a few more bots to this. They're available now if you wanted to use them.

@InfiniteFoes I'll give them a test run

Would you happen to have these models as obj, fbx, or other generic file types instead of source files? I've been working on making my own models and having these for reference would be nice, but decompiling and converting the source file types such that I can load them up in blender is a pain- especially for such a quantity as this.

I'm more concerned with just having the meshes as reference, so if the rigging isn't perfect or even just isn't there I'm fine with that.

I do have the fbx meshes that I rig and port. Although, there is a Blender addon that allows you to import Source mdl models straight in. It's called "SourceIO" if you want to look for it.

Oh, that makes things infinitely easier than using crowbar and vtf editor, I never knew that existed.
